Matjaž Smodiš (Cedevita) is a professional but also a fighter, who often went over his pain just to be part of big basketball stories. He too played with injury in the last round of the regular season against Cibona a month ago. But problems with his foot didn’t stop and one of the biggest European players of the last decaded will have to skip the F4 in Tel Aviv.
In the countdown to the first game of this year's ABA League Final Tournament we spoke with some players from the regional competition, who gave their opinion on who do they see as a favourite for this year.
Cedevita is a very ambitious club and a totally new sport's project on the territory of ex-Yugoslavia. It is a private club in every meaning of this word . Coach Dražen Anzulović, who always strived to big goals, joined it before the beginning of the season. And even for him this year's Final Four Tournament in Tel Aviv is a great opportunity to fulfill ambitious plans the club and players have this season. He also has the experience playing at the regional league F4 in previous years when he coached Cibona. He remembers loosing the final game against Partizan and this year's semi-final will be a great opportunity to revenge the Serbian club for the last defeat.
Basektball fans in Podgorica always prefered those players who at first sight were not playing the most beautiful basketball on the world but whose effect on the court was what helped the team in reaching its goals. Čedomir Vitkovac may well belongs among those loved by fans. Since he returned to Budućnost he is the leading link in the chain with big expectations also for the F4 in Tel Aviv.
A detailed schedule of all four team's practices in days before the Final Four Tournament was confirmed on Tuesday. Partizan, Cedevita and Budućnost all plan to travel to Tel Aviv two days before semi-final, that is on Thursday, April 26th, and will practice according to the schedule.
